Titanic star wins Oscar award for the first time

Leonardo DiCaprio has finally won the best actor at the Oscar Academy award after four previous acting nominations.
Inarritu's The Revenant star acted as a betrayed 19th-century frontiersman seeking revenge and this role has given him both a Golden Globe and a Bafta for his perfomance. DiCaprio has beaten last year's winner Eddie Redmayne and Michael Fassbender.

He utilised his speech to warn about the effects of global warming. "Climate change is real and it's happening right now".  He further said, "It's the most urgent threat affecting our species". He also said, "Let us not take this planet for granted. I do not take this night for granted."

The actor beat out competition from last year's winner Eddie Redmayne and Michael Fassbender. His role in Inarritu has earned him admiration as it was said that DiCaprio ate raw bison liver and slept in animal carcasses. The movie also picked Oscars for best cinematography and best director for Alejandro Gonzalez.

He has previously been nominated for his work in What's Eating Gilbert Grape?, The Aviator, Blood Diamond and The Wolf of Wall Street.
